Do you love poetry? Or do you feel like you just don't "get" poetry? Either way, this camp is for you. The lucky students who join this camp will get a crash course in reading, writing, and most of all enjoying great poetry. Join Mr. Bond to learn the tools and techniques of the best poets over the ages, from centuries ago to present day, and to keep a poet's notebook where you write imitations and original works of your own. By the end of the week, you will know how to see what great poems are really doing, speak about them with confidence, and make your own poems. The course will conclude with a pool party and an “open mic” opportunity featuring camp members’ own original writing.
Here is what you will need:
1) A notebook dedicated to the week. If you have a nice fancy notebook hanging around with a blank first page because it’s just too nice to spoil, now is your chance to put it to good use. Of course, any composition book will do, but using a quality new notebook is a great way to honor and dignify your activities in this camp, and will also endure as a memento of the camp experience.
2) Writing utensils. For our purposes, pens are better than pencils. No erasers or white-out is allowed, for secret reasons which will be made clear soon enough.
If you have any questions prior to kick-off, we're here to help!
